Barbecue in the Park
Last Sunday, my friend and I went to the park because David’s family invited us to a barbecue party in the park. We lived nearby so we just walked there.
When we got to the park, there were not many people. David’s family was already there. They arrived there early to get the best picnic spot with an electronic barbecue grill nearby. When we arrived, they were cleaning the barbecue. After making sure the barbecue was clean, they turned the barbecue on by pushing the button. The electric stove turned on and the metal plate became hot.
David’s mother put some cooking oil on the metal plate, and after that she put some sausages, beef steaks, and some onions on the barbecue. Meanwhile, David’s father was preparing the bread, butter, and the drinks.
While waiting for the meat to cook, David and I joined other boys playing football. When we got tired, we stopped and enjoyed the sausages, steaks, and some cold soft drinks.
The food was delicious. I think David’s mother is one of the best cooks in the world.

Narrative
Rapunzel
A long time ago there lived a young couple, a man and his wife. His wife was expecting her baby. She wanted a plant that only grew in her neighbor’s garden. She wanted it so much. She even intended to steal it herself, but later on, she sent her husband to steal it.
Unfortunately, Mother Gothel, the owner of the garden, caught him doing it. She was a witch. Then, Mother Gothel forced the couple to give their first baby to her.
A few month later, the baby was born. It was a girl and named Rapunzel. Soon, this baby was taken away to live with Mother Gothel. Rapunzel grew to be a beautiful young girl with her long golden hair. At first she was cared for in a normal way. When she reached puberty, she was locked in a tower so that she would never leave Mother Gothel. The tower stood in the forest. It could only be entered by climbing on Rapunzel’s hair. To cheer herself up, she loved to sing.
One day, a young prince was out hunting. He stumbled upon the tower. He heard the Rapunzel’s beautiful voice. He decided that he must meet her. He spied and, by watching Mother Gothel, learned the words he had to say to have Rapunzel drop her hair. The prince visited her often and the two fell in love.
Then, Rapunzel made a plan to escape from the tower. She wanted to with the prince. She asked the prince to bring her a skein of silk each time he visited. She might weave a ladder for her escape. Unfortunately, Mother Gothel caught on. Then, she banished Rapunzel to the desert. She threw the prince from the tower into a thorny bush. The thorns made the prince blind and he roamed the earth searching for his love.
Eventually, they found each other, and the prince’s eyes were healed by Rapunzel’s tears of happiness.

Anecdote
My Secret Alias
Hi, I’m Jack Banner. I’m a secret agent, but I’m here on vacation. Guess what happened to me. I almost forgot my identity.
I arrived at the airport in the afternoon. The flight was not very good. So I only had a little sleep. Nobody picked me up, so I took a taxi to the hotel. I asked the driver to take me to the hotel my agent had reserved.
At the hotel I went directly to the receptionist desk. I told her that I had reserved the room. After a minute she looked at me and said that nobody had reserved under Jack Baner. And the hotel was full. I thought there was something wrong. But what could I do?
Then I went to a public phone. I called my travel agent back at my country and told her about my problem. I was surprised to know that the problem was so simple. She reserved a room at this hotel under Johny Goodbye, my alias. I am a secret agent, remember?
I was so embarrassed. I shouldn’t have forgotten my alias.

Description
Giraffe
One of the most interesting animals in the zoo is the giraffe. This is the giraffe we saw at zoo. It is male and it is about six meters tall.
The giraffe has big brown eyes. They are protected by very thick lashes. This giraffe has brown spot on the skin. This coloring helps protect the giraffe. It is also has two short horn on its head.
Like a camel, it can go for a long time without drinking water. One source of water is the leaves which it eats from trees. It is tall, so the giraffe can reach the tender leaves at the top of a tree.
The giraffe has two methods of self protection. If something frightens an adult giraffe, it can gallop away about fifty kilometers per hour or stay to fight with its strong legs.

Explanation
The effects of acid soil
Soils with a pH of less than 7.0 are acid. The lower the pH, the more acid the soil. When soil pH falls below 5.5, plant growth is affected. Crop yields decrease, reducing productivity
Soils provide water and nutrients for plant growth and development. Essential plant nutrients include phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium and sulphur. Plants require other elements such as molybdenum, in smaller quantities. Some elements e.g. aluminium and manganese, are toxic to plants.
Nutrients become available to plants when they are dissolved in water. Plants are able to take up phosphate, nitrate, potassium and sulphate ions in solution.
The solubility of nutrients changes with pH. In acid soils (low pH), molybdenum becomes less soluble and aluminium becomes more soluble. Therefore, plant growth may be affected by either a deficiency of molybdenum or too much aluminium.
Both crop and pasture plants are affected by acid soils. There may be a range of symptoms. Crops and pastures may be poorly established resulting in patchy and uneven growth. Plant leaves may go yellow and die at the tips. The root system of the plant may be stunted. Crops may yield less.
Plants vary in their sensitivity to low pH. Canola and lucerne are very sensitive to acid soils so do not grow well. Lupins and triticale are tolerant to soils of low pH so they still perform well.
Land can become unproductive if acid soil is left untreated. Incorporating lime into the soil raises the pH. Therefore, liming soil can reverse the effects of acid soil on plants and return a paddock to productivity.

Nuclear Power
Nuclear power is generated by using uranium which is a metal mined in various part of the world. The first large scale of nuclear power station was opened at Calder Hall in Cumbria , England in 1956.
Some military ships and submarines have nuclear power plant for engine. Nuclear power produces around 11% of the world's energy needed, and produces huge amounts of energy. It cause no pollution as we would get when burning fossil fuels. The advantages of nuclear plant are as follow:
· It costs about the same coal, so it is not expansive to make.
· It does not produce smoke or carbon dioxide, so it does not contribute to the greenhouse effect.
· It produces huge amounts of energy from small amount of uranium.
· It produces small amount of waste.
· It is reliable.
On the other hand, nuclear power is very, very dangerous. It must be sealed up and buried for many years to allow the radioactivity to die away. Furthermore, although it is reliable, a lot of money has to be spent on safety because if it does go wrong, a nuclear accident ca be a major accident.
People are increasingly concerned about this matter. In the 1990's nuclear power was the fastest growing source of power in many parts of the world.

Hortatory Exposition
Recently most people own mobile phone. Why does mobile phone user increase dramatically in recent years? First, the feature and functions has increased. Mobile phone is not used just for calling, but sending text, taking pictures, recording videos, accessing internet, playing games and much more. Second, mobile phone has also become a lot cheaper. Now this communication device does not only fill the pocket of adult but also teenager and student. Even a lot phones are intentionally designed to teenaged market. However should they be allowed to bring them to school?
Many schools do not allow students to bring cell phones to school. It is very reasonable because bringing phone to school potentially disrupts the learning process. Most students use cell phones irresponsibly. They use cell phones to talk to their friend during class time. They also use the calculator and camera features in the class as well. Those potentially lead less concentration in the time of learning and teaching process.

Students go to school to learn and behave fair way. Mobile phones provide a large temptation to cheat in tests. They can communicate to anyone and almost anywhere in the world. Because of the small size of the cell phone, students can send a text quietly and discreetly. The text can go unnoticed anywhere to get help on answering tests, homework, and other class assignment. Learning in school is to behave fair not cheating.
Therefore, schools should ban students from bringing their cell phones. However it should be done fairly. In case of an emergency some student need a call for help, providing easy access to phone is better.
